Through New Eyes

Last summer when we went on vacation I left my house pretty clean and when we came home I was so happy to be home and I noticed all the things I love about my house, but this year I didn't have time to clean it as much before we left as I would have liked. I cleaned up quite a bit, but I didn't have time to vacuum everywhere and I left piles of stuff in the mudroom. When we got home close to midnight, after driving fifteen hours straight with five kids and I stepped into a cluttered room and onto a dirty floor I was so grossed out. I felt like my whole house was filthy. I opened my refrigerator which I also didn't find time to clean. Disgusting. My mental state took a quick nose dive down the path of home scrutiny. I looked around at all the areas in my home that needed cleaning, but more than that--organizing and I became so overwhelmed that I wanted to curl up in the fetal position in a corner,
after I cleaned it of course:)

I thought all I needed was a good night sleep, but when I woke up the next day I felt even worse, because on top of all of stuff around the house that needed to be cleaned and organized I had numerous suitcases to unpack, newspapers and mail to go through and endless loads of laundry.
Even though I just kept wishing I could escape reality I put one painful foot in front of the other painful foot and pushed forward, accomplishing one task at a time and it became less difficult to do as time went on. It is hard to stay in the fetal position when you have six people relying on you and need you to get past yourself and your emotions isn't it!?
