For the Sake of the Birds

This very large window above a set of french doors has most likely been the cause of multiple birds deaths throughout the years.  The unsuspecting birdies are flying along minding their own business when BAM! they hit the clear glass full force.  Poor things. It was time to do something about it.
IMG_0860 I really had my heart set on bamboo, but alas it wasn't meant to be because unfortunately bamboo has very little heat protection and with such a large window it would have been too heavy.
IMG_0862 After looking at numerous other options from many different companies we decided to go with Hunter Douglas Duette Architella.  Mainly because they were the only solution we could find with a high insulating "R" factor, so they would help the best to keep the heat and cold out.
IMG_9479 We decided on the textured linen like one at the top.  It still lets some light in, which is nice.  Because of the way our house faces the afternoon sun just about kills us all summer.  The sun heats up our family-room/kitchen area and doesn't really cool off until about eight in the evening.  Afternoons this summer are going to be so much more enjoyable and maybe the birds will come visit more often ;)
