Spelling Bee

From five to six while cooking dinner (almost every night)
I'm in a spelling bee.
I have to spell words such as rainbow, Cinderella, and happy.
Thank goodness they are within my spelling capacity but,
sometimes I get confused and spell princess with a 1/2 teaspoon in the middle
or
I try to add 1 tablespoon of fairy dust to the meal I'm making.
Eventually it all works out and "A" has her story written
and
we eat a somewhat edible meal all by six o' clock.

Cassamafras

One of the many new nickname for miss "C," although she doesn't like it.
It really should be sassamafras.

She definitely has some sass, sometimes for the best, sometimes for the worst.
She likes to put her face right against mine and tries to look in my eyes and then
she says,
"You look weird. I look weird (about ten times)."
It cracks me up.

About a month ago I gave her a new haircut that suits her personality.
Her preschool teacher put it best when she said,
"C" can be funny, yet serious...the comments she says...she's kind of quirky...but she has my heart."
She tests my patience daily yet she has mine too.

How I Know He's My Son

Need I say more.

I'm a little bit country...

I'm a little bit ....who knows the lyrics?

I used to decorate with more of a country style,
my style has changed over the years, but I still like a little bit of country.

Instead of buying new decor items lately,
I've been moving things around,

trying to reinvent the wheel if you know what I mean?
I recently took this twiggy wreath from my daughter's room
and
put it at the end of a hall.
Now every time I see my little wall o' country it brings a smile to my face.
(For those of you that don't know the lyrics...the song goes... I'm a little bit rock n' roll. Did I just age myself?)

Rub a dub dub...

three kids in a tub.
A real treat in our home,
since we usually shower the "nestlings."

Pulled Over

You know that sinking feeling you get when you see those flashing red and blue lights in your rear view mirror and your heart falls a thousand flights to your stomach, well the "husbird" experienced that a couple of months ago
while driving home from our church at about 11:30 p.m.

After he got pulled over the conversation went like this:
Husbird, "How can I help you officer?"
Officer, "Well I noticed you went into the church about an hour ago.
What were you doing in there?"
Husbird, "Just printing the newsletter for tomorrow."
Officer, "Oh, okay, just wondered what you were doing in the church
so late at night."

I guess there's a first time for everything, being
pulled over for spending time at church.

Just glad he wasn't pulled over for the usual thing.
I'll let you guess what that is.

Different Philosophies

After school today my son was lamenting to me about how two of his friends got
iPod touches for Christmas.

I couldn't help but think, "If I give my son an iPod touch at age nine for Christmas what do I give him at age sixteen, a Ferrari?

I'm sure some will disagree.

"T" has been saving his allowance, money given to him by his grandparents for his birthday and Christmas, and money for doing extra chores around the house--
all for a coveted iPod touch.

After saving for over six months he still doesn't have enough money,
but I feel that when he does save enough money for his very own iPod touch he will value it so much more for having earned it.

New Found Love

About a month ago I discovered these little cutie clementines.
I am in love and so are my "nestlings."
If you haven't ever had these. They are like little oranges, but sweeter.
When I first ate one I said that they were like eating little slices of heaven,
so when the kids want one now they say,"Mom can we have some slices of heaven?"
I must be living under a rock.
How could I not have known about these before now?

They are now our winter fruit of choice.
